Hazel & Marc | 12.08.18
Hazel and Marc’s beautiful boho inspired wedding took place at Cubley Hall in Penistone with preparations at Oak Tree Farm, an Air BnB they’d hired for the weekend with stunning views over the Yorkshire countryside. It was more than big enough for both the boys and the girls to get ready in without bumping into each other ahead of the ceremony… although I know Hazel and Marc spotted each other at least once that morning by accident!
The weather, being typically British, proved to be slightly unpredictable on the day, so the decision was made to perform the ceremony in the barn with it’s warm low lighting and cosy romantic feel. Hazel and Marc had several of their friends and family involved in the service; best friend and bridesmaid Abbie read a poem she had written about the two of them and the musical accompaniment was provided by their friends who had flown in from Germany to sing and play guitar.
Afterwards, the whole party gravitated to the bandstand for drinks, canapes and confetti throwing, whilst the barn was transformed for the wedding breakfast. Each table was named after a different mountain as Marc is such an avid adventurer that his stag do was spent climbing Mount Snowdon and then going for a beer at a local pub! With Hazel working as an ecologist, it was only right to bring the outside in with tonnes of gorgeous table flowers and leaves for name places (my favourite idea).
Following their meal, some of the guests had chance to burn some calories and learn some new skills over in the bandstand with some good old fashioned games and toys including hula hoops and a circus diablo (I’m hopeless at both there was no need to try).
The evening usually kicks off with a first dance from the bride and groom, however Hazel and Marc decided to change things up a bit and had arranged for a traditional ceilidh to take place instead. This was such a lovely idea as it got everyone involved and on the dance floor right from the word go. It also took the pressure off being watched as everyone was too busy bumping into one another and muddling up the routines to notice!
Their day was so relaxed and full of laughs and it was a pleasure to witness and photograph… Mr & Mrs Douglas, thank you for having me!
