Alex & Mark 09.08.19
I was really looking forward to Alex and Mark’s wedding after meeting up with them for their pre-wedding shoot at Newmillerdam a few months earlier. I had been eyeing up the weather all week in anticipation but in true British summertime style it wasn’t looking too great.
Nevertheless, I arrived at Wentbridge House bright and early and met Alex in one of the hotel rooms to photograph bridal prep. This is my favourite time of day as there is always an air of excitement and I can start to get a feel for how the day is going to go. I also love to see what look my brides have gone for and what they have chosen to wear!
Alex had opted for a gorgeous curly half up-do finished with a delicate silver diamanté hair piece and natural flawless make up. She had her personalised converse with ribbon laces at the ready, along with a beautiful wildflower bouquet featuring daisies and bright yellow sunflowers. A thoughtful addition to her flowers was a charm with photos of loved ones so they could be with her during the day.
Whilst Alex was continuing to get ready with friends and family upstairs, I popped down to see how Mark and the boys were getting on. As I expected they were mostly busy figuring out how to attach their button holes – a recurring theme with a lot of the weddings I photograph!
Once everyone was ready, Alex invited dad, Barry, in to see her in her stunning dress for the first time. His reaction was lovely to witness and after a big hug, Alex gave her dad a tie to wear with a note from her stitched into the back as a memento.
The ceremony took place in a suite in the main building, bursting with natural light.
Guests watched proudly as Alex and Mark said their vows to each other and laughed along with them at the giving and receiving of the rings as both took a little bit of persuasion to go on (it was a very hot day!)
Afterwards, Alex and Mark exited the ceremony and led their guests to the front lawn for drinks and a big confetti shot. Everyone stayed outside making the most of the good weather, including all the children who enjoyed running around blowing bubbles at each other until it was time for the wedding breakfast.
Their centrepieces and wedding stationery were all handmade with each table named after a place they shared a holiday together as a couple. Continuing the travel theme, each place name was handwritten on a luggage tag which corresponded with their world map table plan. They had a stunning 3 tier buttercream cake with rubber duck cake toppers, both sporting their favourite football teams and of course, more sunflowers!
Speeches took place after the wedding breakfast, with the highlight coming from the bride’s father, Barry. After reading aloud some rather cringeworthy tweets from his daughters account about a certain Barnsley FC player he then played a video message from the man himself wishing Alex all the best on her wedding day, much to her horror and to everyone else’s amusement!
Later that evening a cake cart was rolled out along with a couple of full sized arcade machines, PacMan and Space Invaders. I couldn’t resist having a little go myself but I’m ashamed to say I never made it past the first level on either! Alex and Mark then had their first dance in front of friends and family, followed shorty after by a father daughter dance.
