If you want a more traditional wedding, you can get married in Hazlewood Castle as a number of rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies.
If you love the outdoors and nature and you’re looking for a more relaxed wedding day with a stunning backdrop, the enchanted woodland is the perfect option. Your Hazlewood Castle wedding ceremony will take place under the wedding pagoda and guests can enjoy drinks in the woodland followed by a wedding breakfast in the tipi.
A Stunning Woodland Wedding at Hazlewood Castle
Over the summer I photographed my first ever wedding at Hazlewood Castle. I’ve photographed at lots of different wedding venues in the Yorkshire area but I always get excited when I’m able to visit somewhere new!
This wedding took place in the woodland area and luckily the weather was dry so everyone could enjoy the wedding day without getting muddy.
Bridal Preparations in the Historic Castle
Bridal preparation took place in the Elderflower room, one of the large suites in Hazlewood Castle with a four-poster bed. You’ll find the Elderflower room just up the main staircase.
The natural light in the room coming from the large bay window is perfect for wedding photographs, especially when the bride is getting dressed and touching her makeup up.
There’s also plenty of space in this room for everyone to get ready without getting in anyone’s way which is important if you want great documentary wedding photos of this part of the day.
Enchanted Woodland Ceremony at Hazlewood Castle
Down a long woodland path between two rows of trees is the outdoor wedding area at Hazlewood Castle. Guests are seated on long wooden benches facing the woodland pagoda where the ceremony takes place.
After my couple said their vows they walked back down the aisle to a shower of confetti from their wedding guests. Everyone then gathered in the woodland at Hazlewood Castle for drinks and canapes at the bar.
Wedding Photographs in the Woodland at Hazlewood Castle
The best time to take all of your formal wedding day photographs is during the drinks reception as all of your other guests will be chatting and enjoying the food.
Wedding photographers are always looking for the most flattering light and backdrop for family photos. I love the woodland area at Hazlewood Castle because there is a large clearing with plenty of space and lots of natural light which is perfect for your formal wedding photos.
The trees give also plenty of opportunity for some gorgeous portraits afterwards. I love how the trees create a natural frame for the couple in these photographs, especially when we used the path between the woodland and the castle.
Tipi Evening Reception and Dancing
The woodland wedding venue area also boasts a large tipi for your wedding day meal and speeches.
It’s nice and spacious inside with room for additional seating for older guests. It also provides shelter in case of bad weather. If you’re having an outdoor woodland wedding, it’s always great to have a backup plan and space for wedding photographs inside!
After the speeches and evening antics with some garden games, it was time for the first dance. I absolutely love that the dancefloor at Hazlewood Castle is outdoors as it’s so unique and feels much more relaxed to photograph.
