I absolutely loved photographing my first Bolton Castle wedding this summer!

Confetti throw in the courtyard at Bolton Castle

Bolton Castle is a stunning medieval castle and wedding venue near Leyburn in North Yorkshire. Set amongst the stunning backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales, Bolton Castle is the perfect wedding venue for history and nature lovers alike.

Weddings at Bolton Castle are unique because it is one of the country’s best-preserved medieval castles and has over 600 years of history behind it. The surrounding views are incredible too!

Solar Room Wedding Ceremony

At Bolton Castle, the wedding ceremony takes place in the Solar Room which seats 60 guests. The room was beautifully decorated with flowers framing the window. I made sure to use this backdrop later for some couple photos.

As the castle has a falconry, you can also choose to have the rings delivered via Barn Owl. It was an absolute pleasure being able to capture the moment the owl swooped down the aisle and landed on the groom’s arm.

This room is also used later on for the evening reception and dancing. It has a great atmosphere for a party!

Drinks and Confetti in the Courtyard

The Courtyard is a huge open space perfect for guests to mingle and have their drinks and canapes. It also makes a great base for guests to explore the castle! There are so many different areas of Bolton Castle for all the guests to explore.

Great Chamber Wedding Reception

The Great Chamber is the perfect spot for your wedding breakfast and speeches. I love photographing this part of the day, especially if there is a hilarious best man speech as the reactions from friends and family are always priceless.

Wedding Portraits Inside the Castle

The Chapel is a stunning outdoor spot on the roof of the castle. It’s a lovely space for guests to gather away from the wedding to have a breather. It’s also great for portraits!

As I was photographing my couple the sun made an appearance which added so much more to the photographs!

I also used the corridor between the ceremony room and the Great Chamber as the natural light coming in through the window was lovely.

The Gardens at Bolton Castle

The grounds of Bolton Castle hold so much potential for couple photographs. I wanted to include as much of the castle gardens as possible for the couple as they loved them so much. We made use of the vineyard, rose garden, maze and the castle itself as a backdrop.

You can also have your ceremony in the grounds beneath the castle if the weather is suitable. Scroll to see more photos from this stunning wedding below!
