If you love outdoor DIY ceremonies and village hall receptions full of colour and disco balls, then you’ll love the photos from this wedding in Yorkshire!
A DIY Garden Wedding Ceremony and a Funky Village Hall Reception
Charlotte and Jordan opted for a relaxed celebrant-led wedding ceremony in the garden of their parent’s home in Yorkshire. I love it when couples choose to get married on family land. If you’d like to know more about why at-home weddings are awesome, then check out my weddings at home blog.
Stylish Back Garden Wedding Ceremony
Charlotte and her bridesmaids and daughter were getting ready in one area of the house, whilst ceremony preparations were happening in the garden. It was a little bit touch and go at one point when the wind picked up, but luckily the rain held off until after the ceremony.
It’s no secret that I love an outdoor ceremony and the freedom they lend to photography. This ceremony had so many personal elements and lovely touches, such as a reading from their maid of honour.
A unique moment for me was witnessing my first love lock ceremony, where two padlocks engraved with their initials and date were locked together, with the help of their daughter.
After the ceremony, there were huge cheers from everyone as they walked back down the aisle to a huge flurry of paper confetti. This was such a great moment and resulted in some of Charlotte and Jordan’s favourite photos of the day. She said:
“The time I put into making the individual confetti bags paid off! Everyone has commented on how amazing the confetti photos are! And I am still amazed at how they turned out! They just bring back all the memories of walking back down the aisle as Mr and Mrs surrounded by our friends and family!”

Relaxed At-Home Drinks Reception
The sun made an appearance just in time for drinks in the garden, accompanied by music from an acoustic duo. I love to capture the overall feel of a drinks reception, with all the smiles, hugs and laughter, but I also love focusing on interesting details, using more abstract and unusual compositions.
I loved the chaos at the end as the rain came in and all of the guests scattered to the wind (and the reception) leaving a few people left to tidy up. Moments like this are all part and parcel of storytelling, especially when it’s a DIY wedding at home where everyone is pitching in.
Colourful Village Hall Wedding Reception
After a few drinks, the whole wedding party headed over to Cawthorne Village Hall for the reception, food and speeches.
Cawthorne Village Hall is a fabulous space for a wedding reception. With its tall arched ceilings, large feature windows, beams and neutral decor, it’s the perfect place for a DIY wedding reception.
You can inject your personality into it on a wedding day, and that’s exactly what Charlotte and Jordan did; with streamers, disco balls, funky handmade banners and signage everywhere.
They had a Greek Gyros van for food which went down a treat with guests (and me) and once everyone was full it was time to get going with the speeches.
Speeches are one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph at a wedding, as they’re always packed with emotion. Whether it’s laughter, tears, embarrassment, or a groan from the mother-in-law, I love to capture the personalities of the speakers and the reactions of the couple and their guests.
A Chilled Out Evening and a Packed Out Dancefloor
From then on, the wedding was all about relaxing, drinking in the evening sun, eating pie and doing headstands on the dancefloor (at least the kids thought so).
Charlotte and her dad had a lovely moment during their dance, which resulted in one of my favourite photos. Here you can see she has pinched the handkerchief she’d gifted her dad earlier that morning, to wipe the tears from her face. I love that you can see ‘Dad x’ engraved on it.
Kind Words from the Happy Couple
“I really struggled when it came to finding a wedding photographer – I didn’t want really staged, Sepia-toned photos and I was worried I would never find someone I liked – then I found Jenna’s Instagram and immediately fell in love with her photographs and photography style.
She offered great communication before the wedding and was so helpful, she made me feel very calm about the whole experience and I could not wait for her to photograph our wedding.
On the day Jenna and her second photographer were incredible, I hate having my photo taken but she made myself and my fiancee feel so comfortable and made the whole experience so enjoyable.
Everyone commented about how amazing Jenna was and how she just fitted in to the wedding – she captured amazing photos without the people being photographed even knowing! I loved how she blended in to the wedding so well – and I was very impressed with the levels she will go to for a good pic 😂
The photos have turned out amazing and I am so happy that we have these moments of our special day to last a lifetime!”

Fun Colourful Wedding Photography
This was such a great day to be a part of. I love it when couples lean into the things they love and try to incorporate them into their weddings. Every wedding may follow a similar structure, but it’s the choices you make when planning and the people you have with you there that make it unique.
