A Stunning Colourful Fusion Wedding at The Venue in Halifax

The Venue Bowers Mill wedding photography with bride and groom

If you’re planning a colourful wedding, you’ll find loads of inspiration from this fusion wedding!

When this couple first got in touch with me about their wedding, I was so excited – they were planning a really fun non-traditional wedding with an English ceremony and a fabulous Indian celebration for the reception. They are the loveliest couple and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding at The Venue, Halifax!

Bridal Prep

I started at the Bowers Mill Hotel, where the bridal party were relaxing before the big event, and it was so lovely because everyone was chatting away and getting excited about the day. The bride wore a stunning Madi Lane dress with a sweetheart neckline and drop sleeves and Groom wore a dapper pale grey suit and they looked really incredible. All the girls had bright summery bouquets that were really stunning. The bride also had her traditional Indian wedding lehenga ready to change into after the ceremony!

The Main Event

The wedding took place in The Spinning Room and was a beautiful legal ceremony. They had lots of laughter from guests and happy tears from the bridesmaids. I loved seeing the groom’s family holding hands in the front row. After the ceremony, the couple walked down the aisle together, and then the celebrations began!

The Afternoon Reception

The afternoon wedding reception took place in the bar, which is a lovely open, bright space. They had awesome music from a saxophone player whilst everyone enjoyed drinks and canapes. The atmosphere was really relaxed and lovely. While the guests enjoyed the live music, the couple mingled. This is a great time to get photos of guests so I took lots of candids. My favourite photo is everyone eating their canapes at once! Check it out below!

Afterwards, we ventured out into the garden for their confetti photo and some natural couple photos in the sun.

During the reception, they had speeches in the bar, which was so much fun. Having speeches in the bar is a great way to make your wedding feel more relaxed and informal which I love.

Party Time

The bride and groom changed into their evening wear at the hotel and they reentered with traditional Dhol drummers announcing them into the room which made for a great atmosphere!

Traditional Indian sharing food was brought out to the tables for the wedding breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. Once everyone had eaten some food it was time to get the party started with the first dance and the DJ kept the party going all night.

Advice for Planning your Wedding

If you’re looking to make your wedding feel more relaxed and less traditional, why not have informal speeches in the bar instead, or even outside if the weather is good! Remember you can plan whatever you fancy for your big day, you don’t have to stick to tradition!

Lovely Words

“We’re so glad we chose Jenna as our photographer, her colourful and candid style fitted so well with our day and she just captured everything perfectly! Jenna arrived in the morning and fitted in straight, stealthily snapping away but still got involved in the girly chats with my bridesmaids and hair and make-up. She captured some really special moments with my parents and bridesmaids which I’ll treasure forever. She also put us both at ease when taking the couple photos and with my husband being camera shy he really appreciated her style of capturing our laughs and awkwardness in such a relaxed way!”
