Fielden Hall is an intimate and quirky event and wedding venue in Todmorden in Calderdale.
It used to be known as The Fielden Centre and formed part of the local school, Todmorden High School back in its heyday. After 10 years of restoration, Fielden Hall is available to hire for weddings and is perfect for couples planning a laidback wedding with a DIY vibe.

Todmorden wedding venue, Fielden Hall (Fielden Centre), is a beautiful old hall with amazing windows. It’s the perfect venue for a laid-back DIY wedding celebration. You’ll have exclusive use and the ability to dress the venue however you’d like!
The Ceremony
Ceremonies take place under the rose window. Fielden Hall is licensed for legal marriages, but you can also choose to have a celebrant wedding if you prefer.
One of my couples had the best of both worlds with a legal service, followed by handfasting.
I love to photograph humanist ceremonies as they are so much more intimate and relaxed. With a celebrant-led wedding, I’m able to move around much more freely during the ceremony and get images from lots of different angles.
At Fielden Hall, there is a mezzanine level which allows me to provide a different perspective to my couples. Wedding photography is all about storytelling, and so I love this photo of the best man tying the groom’s shoes whilst waiting for the bride to arrive.
The Drinks Reception
After the ceremony, guests gather outside for the confetti photo which is always lots of fun.
There is plenty of space outside Fielden Hall for your drinks reception, with an outdoor bar and marquee available in case it rains.
At Fielden Hall it’s a team effort to turn the room around for the wedding breakfast. The wedding co-ordinator Audrey will be on hand to help but it’s down to your guests to help out. I love the sense of togetherness that DIY wedding bring when everyone helps to pitch in.

As a wedding photographer, the speeches are great fun to photograph. I love to document the emotion from family and friends as that’s what wedding celebrations are all about!
Couple Portraits at Fielden Hall, Todmorden
The advantage of a summer wedding is that the sun sets later in the day so if you’re lucky you may have the chance for some golden hour portraits.
The back of Fielden Hall looks out onto the bowling greens of Todmorden Park.
I wanted to include the hall in the background of their couple photos to give them a sense of place. I waited until I knew the sun would be poking out just above the building and we wandered outside into Centre Vale Park for some natural photos in the warm light.
The flowers in the park at this August wedding worked really well to frame this couple as they looked wonderful in the evening light.
Equally, these flowers provided another frame for my couple at their May wedding.
I wanted to create something unique for my couple that would feature the stunning windows of the hall, so I used flashes to light up the windows and the couple under the dark blue of the sky and this was the final image in their gallery.
The Evening Reception
The evening reception is the perfect time to bring in food trucks and fun games to keep friends and family entertained in good weather.
Inside, a dancefloor area is cleared and I got to use the mezzanine level once more to capture this couple’s stunning choreographed first dance.
Fielden Hall has a great party atmosphere. This moment in particular was a joy to photograph! Everyone launched into the dancing and within minutes ties were around all the groomsmen’s heads.

Fielden Hall looks out over Centre Vale Park which is the perfect spot for couple photos, especially as the sun sets behind the hall during summer.

Don’t sweat the small stuff too much like wedding favours and venue decor. Fielden Hall already looks the part without a great deal of effort! With a DIY wedding, be sure to focus more on fun, entertainment and food for your guests. Make sure they have the best time ever!
