If you’re planning a wedding at Middletons Hotel in York, you’ll find tons of inspo from these weddings!
I’ve photographed two gorgeous intimate weddings at Middletons Hotel, a collection of Grade II listed buildings which all make up the hotel in York city centre.
I love this hotel wedding venue because it has such a beautiful facade and garden which makes a great backdrop for wedding photography.
Weddings at Middletons Hotel are perfect for chilled-out couples who want a no-fuss wedding where they get to spend quality time with their guests.
I’m Jenna, a wedding photographer based in Yorkshire. I love capturing fun and colourful wedding photos!

Getting Ready at the Hotel
The hotel room used for getting ready is spacious and bright with a full-length mirror and makeup table, perfect for storytelling wedding photography and it’s just a short walk from the room to the ceremony area.
Middletons Hotel Ceremony
Intimate ceremonies take place in the Sun Lounge room, another bright and airy space which is perfect for your wedding photographer!
Lady Anne House Garden Drinks Reception
The gardens outside Lady Anne House are such a lovely place to have your drinks reception, especially if the weather is good and the sun is shining.
One of my favourite parts of a wedding to photograph is the confetti run. This couple had the most amazing moment thanks to all the biodegradable paper confetti and cannons guests used as they left the building. Lady Anne herself even joined in the fun as she was covered in confetti too!
Check out my epic confetti photos guide if you want to know how to get awesome photos like this.
As a documentary wedding photographer, I love to spend time capturing relaxed, natural photos of guests and the afternoon drinks reception is the perfect time for this.
Couple Photos
There are plenty of stunning backdrops for wedding portraits, in the garden itself and also in the cobbled passageway next door to the hotel. The red brick lane is quintessentially York.
I love to incorporate colour into my wedding photography and the flowers in the garden added the perfect amount of foreground interest to these portraits.
The Wedding Breakfast
Wedding receptions take place in a private room called the conservatory. The conservatory is shaped in a semi-circle so there are multiple ways to arrange the tables with none of your guests feeling left out.
One of my couples had their table in the middle with guests surrounding them, whilst the other had theirs on the wall by the window with long banquet-style tables for their guests.
I love the cosy and relaxed feel of this room with its natural wooden beams and windows all around.
The light in the conservatory is perfect for photos. At this wedding there were so many emotional moments during the speeches.
Why Middletons Hotel is a Great Place to Get Married
Middletons Hotel is perfect for intimate weddings and is one of the most central places to get married in York. The venue offers onsite bedrooms and parking for guests so they don’t have to leave early – and there are loads of amazing places on the grounds that are perfect for photos.
It’s just a short walk from the hotel over the Skeldergate Bridge to the city centre where you can loop from the Shambles to York Minster and the museum gardens for photos that will be full of history.
If you’re planning on having an intimate ceremony and then a larger evening party, why not do what one of my couples did and head over to another York city centre venue, Pitcher and Piano, for an epic evening do which featured a performance by two drag queens. The first dance involved the bride being lifted and spun around. I love this photograph!
