East Keswick Village Hall is the Perfect Blank Canvas Venue

East Keswick Village Hall is a community event space and wedding venue. You’ll find the hall tucked away in the village of East Keswick near Leeds, West Yorkshire.

You’ll have exclusive use of the open-plan village hall, which is light, bright and spacious with neutral decor, making it the perfect blank canvas for wedding day decoration. The only limit here is your imagination! This couple chose to decorate the hall with flowers and as much colour as possible, which I loved.

If you’re looking for a less traditional wedding venue with lots of flexibility and the freedom to plan your wedding exactly as you’d like, then East Keswick Village Hall is just the place!

A Wedding Venue for Relaxed Outdoorsy Couples

Multiple doors open out onto a patio terrace which spans the length of the hall and leads nicely into the outdoor space.

Steps from the patio lead down into the garden which is a huge open space with incredible views over the farmer’s fields. If you’re lucky you may have some extra wedding guests on the day as cows graze in the field next door to the village hall.

The outside area at East Keswick Village Hall is large enough to accommodate a marquee or tipi if you’d like extra space for your guests on your big day.

An Outdoor Ceremony with Stunning Countryside Views

At East Keswick Village Hall, the lawn is the perfect setting for an outdoor ceremony in the countryside. I absolutely loved photographing this ceremony which was led by their honourary celebrant (the bride’s brother).

Informal ceremonies always allow for better photos with more variation as I’m able to move around and photograph from multiple angles. I love to be up close and personal to capture the emotion, but it’s also great to be able to step back and include the views I know the couple love.

East Keswick Village Hall is not licensed for legal marriages, so you will need to elope to your nearest register office beforehand for the official paperwork. You can check out my Yorkshire Registry Office Wedding page for more helpful information on how to plan your legal ceremony.

Countryside Wedding Couple Portraits

The outdoor area also makes a beautiful effortless backdrop for couple portraits. A little bench tucked into the corner made a cute spot for photos here.

The bonus of having children at this wedding meant that space hoppers were readily available for some extra fun pictures!

A DIY Wedding Reception at East Keswick Village Hall

As a wedding photographer, the thing I love most about a village hall wedding is that no two celebrations are the same! A village hall wedding offers so much flexibility. You can adapt the layout and design to suit you, and you can hire all your favourite suppliers to help make your unique vision a reality.

If you’re going full DIY, you can involve your family and friends in making the decor and even the cake!

At this East Keswick Village Hall wedding, the groom, a chef, took care of all the catering at the wedding reception. Guests on each table were gifted a funky cat-themed apron and given the task of serving the rest of their table. This was lots of fun to capture, especially as I was able to go into the kitchen itself and tell the story from a different perspective.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I’m always on the lookout for unique ways to tell a story. For this couple, the food was a huge part of their wedding day and I wanted to be able to show that in their photos.

East Keswick Village Hall has a Great Party Atmosphere

At one end of the hall is a built-in stage area which is great if you plan on having evening entertainment such as a band.

This couple had a live brass band to kick off the evening music. They chose not to have a first dance and instead just relaxed and enjoyed the moment surrounded by friends.
