Stillington Mill Wedding Photos – At The Mill Wedding, York
I was so excited to photograph my first Stillington Mill wedding this year!
Stillington Mill is a unique family-run wedding venue in the little village of Stillington, North Yorkshire. This brand-new wedding venue near York has so much to offer for couples who are looking for a relaxed outdoor woodland wedding.
This venue perfectly complements my colourful, natural wedding photography style.
About Stillington Mill
Stillington Mill is a family home and venue that offers space for weddings and other creative events in the summer months. Also known as ‘At The Mill’ you’ll find the cafe open to the public on Saturday mornings to the early afternoon.
If you’re planning on getting married at Stillington Mill in the summer, you’ll be able to have a relaxed start to your wedding day with a late ceremony and still not risk losing light for your photos.
Accommodation is also available at Stillington Mill. The Mill Cottage and traditional Shepherd’s Hut on site are available for short stays, meaning you’ll never be too far from your bed when the wedding party is over!
Woodland Glade Ceremony
At the former corn mill, there is a dedicated area for outdoor ceremonies. The woodland glade is tucked away surrounded by trees and is such a beautiful area of the venue to get married in.
Currently, the mill does not hold a license for civil ceremonies, however, celebrant/handfasting ceremonies are possible. These types of ceremonies are often more personal and fun for couples and their guests.
I love celebrant-led weddings because they offer much more flexibility and fewer restrictions for wedding photography. Being able to capture the ceremony from multiple angles means that my couples get much more creative variety in their final wedding gallery.
Marquee Wedding Reception At The Mill
Stillington Mill has plenty of outdoor space available for the drinks reception. There is also a large paved area which is the perfect base for a marquee for the wedding breakfast.
Marquees are great for DIY outdoor weddings as they serve as shelter from bad weather but they’re nice and bright inside so your wedding photos won’t look out of place compared to any that are taken outdoors.
Everything about this wedding day was very laid back, including the food. A burger van provided all the guests with a meal during the day and in the evening, pizzas were served courtesy of Stillington’s Mill’s own pizza oven.
Top tip to tackle food waste at your wedding:
Cut your cake before you sit down for your meal. Caterers can then serve up a slice to everyone for dessert and nothing will be wasted! One of my favourite images is of a family member dishing up the cake whilst the couple are eating. I love to include storytelling images like this in the final wedding gallery. I think it’s always interesting for the couple to know what was happening away from everyone else.
Relaxed Wedding Portrait Photography at Stillington Mill
There are so many individual areas and cute photo spots at Stillington Mill for portraits. We made use of the gardens, plants and flowers in the bar area and by the entrance to the mill itself. I know that my couples book me for my relaxed style of wedding photography and that they don’t want to spend too much time away from their guests.
As an experienced wedding photographer, I know that 15 minutes is more than enough time to capture some fabulous photos of the happy couple without taking up too much time on their special day.
Evening Celebrations At The Mill
I love the evening atmosphere at Stillington Mill. The venue comes to life with festoon lighting and music, and guests can enjoy stone-baked pizza from their own pizza oven at the bar.
I also love photographing all the dancefloor and party antics. My couples just love those natural, fun photos of their guests.
