A Stylish Autumnal Pumpkin-Filled Wedding at The Venue

If You’re Planning an Autumn Wedding, You’ll Love This Wedding for Inspiration!

When these two first got in touch with me about their wedding, I was so excited – they were planning a relaxed autumnal wedding with stylish Halloween-themed decor and their two dogs would be joining them for the ceremony! David and Jacques are the sweetest couple and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!

Getting Ready

I met up with the boys in the Gentlemen’s Suite at the Bowers Mill Apart Hotel, next to the venue. The grooms were getting ready together, and it was so chilled out! David wore braces and a bow tie with a grey suit, and Jacques wore a burgundy suit and they looked really perfect together.

Once they were dressed their family and friends came to join them for a drink and everyone helped to pin buttonholes on.

Before heading to the ceremony, I took them around the venue for a few couple photos in the garden. Their suits looked amazing against all the autumn colours!

Getting Hitched at The Venue Halifax

The wedding took place in the Spinning Room and was a fun yet moving ceremony. The grooms’ dads’ walked their dogs down the aisle with the rings in a basket which was so cute. A friend read an excerpt from the SCOTUS Same Sex Marriage Ruling by Justice Anthony Kennedy which was really moving. After this everyone sang ‘Make Someone Happy’ together which was beautiful. When the ceremony was over, they walked down the aisle together waving and then the celebrations began!

The Afternoon

The wedding reception took place In the main room at the venue, which was full of Autumnal decor and lots of pumpkins. It was so beautiful.

It was a drizzly and foggy autumn day, which luckily didn’t put a dampener on their mood! While the guests enjoyed drinks at the bar, I did some family photos outside once the rain had stopped, including a few cute photos with the dogs! Then we headed back inside and grabbed a few portrait photos in the ceremony room.

For the wedding breakfast, they had a slap-up meal, and it was absolutely delicious. Afterwards, their dads each gave a speech along with David and then it was time to get the party started! A performance from two drag queens kicked off the evening celebrations and then the DJ took over and kept everyone going on the dancefloor.

Advice for Planning Your Autumn Wedding

If you’re having a late ceremony in autumn or winter, having your couple photos before the ceremony is a great idea. This way you won’t feel rushed having to get your photos done before it goes dark, and you can spend more time chatting with your guests inside! If you’re not getting ready together, why not have a first look instead? This is an especially good idea if you need to combat the nerves before the ceremony.

Lovely Words

“From planning to our wedding day, Jenna was just what we wanted, easy to talk to, stress-free and except for the formal photos slipped into the background so we hardly noticed her. She produced amazing photos, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t consider themselves photogenic.”
