Just a short 15-minute drive out of Sheffield city centre, you’ll find Wood Lane Countryside Centre nestled amongst some trees in Stannington.

Wood Lane is a beautiful converted stone farmhouse with a cobbled stone courtyard to the front, and spacious garden to the rear. It is packed full of quirky charm and it’s the perfect option for an affordable, laid-back DIY wedding.

Wood Lane Outdoor Wedding Ceremony

If you’ve always dreamed of an outdoor ceremony on your wedding day, Wood Lane has the perfect venue for you.

There is a cobbled walkway in the grass which acts as a natural wedding aisle and this leads from straight from the house to up the bandstand. This platform is the perfect place to have your ceremony so your guests can have the best view whilst you say your vows.

Behind the platform, there are wildflowers that bloom in the summer and this makes such a beautiful backdrop for your wedding photographs.

I love photographing an outdoor ceremony as it allows me to capture so many beautiful moments from different angles as there is more space to manoeuvre. Having the freedom to move around during the ceremony means you’ll get more variety in your final wedding photos.

Country Wedding Drinks Reception

As a wedding photographer, one of my favourite parts of the day is the drinks reception.

At Wood Lane Countryside Centre the outside space is incredible and perfect to have a chilled-out drinks reception. There is plenty of lawn space to have garden games too which always gives me lots to photograph. Garden games are a great source of guests entertainment throughout the day.

Capturing natural, documentary photos of wedding guests enjoying a relaxing afternoon in the sun is what I’m all about!

Of course, group photos are just as important at this time of the day and there is no shortage of great backdrops outside for these.

Planning for Wet Weather at Wood Lane

If you’re worried about rain, consider hiring a marquee for the garden to make the most of your space.

Your wedding ceremony can take place upstairs in the Grain Loft where wedding receptions are held so this is a great plan-B option.

For the drinks reception, there is a small room on the ground floor with a mini bar called the Garden Room but this would be a tight fit for lots of guests to pack into if the weather is bad.

The beautiful stone front facade of Wood Lane is also a great backdrop for couple photos. The signature red doors at the venue provide a pop of colour which I love incorporating into my photography.

Speeches and Food in the Grain Loft

The grain loft is a beautiful open loft space with fairy-lit covered exposed beams, wooden floors and stone walls. It has a really cosy vibe and it is the perfect blank canvas for adding your own personality with your wedding decor.

At this wedding, the couple chose long banquet-style tables for their guests, with their top table at the far end underneath the circular feature window.

At Wood Lane Countryside Centre, you have the freedom to choose all your suppliers, including catering. This couple opted for local catering company PJ Taste who provided a vegetarian/vegan sharing feast.

Speeches took place after the meal and involved a slideshow presentation with old photos which made everyone laugh. Reactions from the couple and their family and friends are always so much fun to capture in a documentary way.

Evening Party at Wood Lane

In the evening, the Grain Loft is transformed, leaving plenty of space for a dancefloor. The first dance landed went off with a bang thanks to a big confetti cannon and the rest was one big party!

The dark stone barn gives off the best party atmosphere at night.
