Wharfedale Grange Wedding Photography
2025 blessed me with my first-ever visit to photograph at Wharfedale Grange, a stunning luxury barn wedding venue in the North Yorkshire countryside, close to the town of Harrogate.
Wharfedale Grange is a stunning venue packed with rustic charm and gorgeous features, from the feature fairy light wall in the ceremony room to the chandeliers and giant disco ball in the South Barn.
This luxury venue is elegant and moody, with no shortage of picturesque backdrops for wedding photographers to choose from.

Weddings are Stress-Free at Wharfedale Grange
Wharfedale Grange is the perfect wedding venue if you’re looking for an exclusive-use venue surrounded by countryside, but that still has great transport links. Situated between Leeds and Harrogate, your guests will have no trouble arriving and leaving the venue late at night, which means you can party the night away without worry.
There is also a large onsite car park and guests are welcome to leave their car and collect it the following day if necessary.
There are multiple on-site accommodation options, including a Georgian Farmhouse, a Shepherd’s Hut and a Bunk Barn that sleeps 16 people.
My couples often love a good party, so you can enjoy having your wedding evening captured on the dancefloor knowing it’s only a short walk to your bed!
Exceptional service is always on hand from the staff, and you’ll even have two on the day wedding coordinators.

Morning Preparations in a Secret Suite
Upstairs in the Cart Barn, behind a sliding door, is a private suite for getting ready, so you can stay separate from your guests before the wedding ceremony.
You can even peek out onto the courtyard and spy your wedding day guests arriving.

Cosy Wedding Ceremony Room in The North Barn
The North Barn at Wharfedale Grange can accommodate up to 200 guests for your wedding ceremony. It has a polished concrete floor and a huge wall of fairy lights that provides a stunning backdrop for your wedding photographs.
Guests are seated on comfortable fabric chairs, which is great if you have elderly relatives. A mezzanine above provides additional seating for guests, and this is also a great place for any live musicians, as the sound travels beautifully over the balcony and around the wedding barn.
Photographing from this vantage point also provides a unique perspective of your ceremony, and really showcases all the features of the North Barn.

Spotlights at the head of the aisle mean that all eyes are on you as you get married. This humanist ceremony was full of personal stories and laughter, which I always love to capture.
For this shot, I used the glass of my phone to reflect the fairy lights around the couple, so it looked as if they were suspended in twinkling lights. It’s one of my favourite images of the year, as you can see the genuine joy on their faces. I’m always on the lookout for those unique candid moments on a wedding day.

Courtyard Confetti at Wharfedale Grange Wedding Venue
After your wedding ceremony, guests are encouraged to head to the courtyard for confetti.
Wharfedale Grange is a dog-friendly wedding venue, so at this wedding, the couple brought their dogs along, and so they got to join in the fun and be showered by confetti too!

As an experienced wedding photographer, I know what works well for confetti, and I’m lucky to have couples who take my advice on board so they can get the best possible wedding photographs during that moment. If you’d like to know more, you can find my tips on my confetti advice blog.
The courtyard at Wharfedale Grange is made for a relaxed drinks reception. The bar in the Cart Barn is just through the main doors, too. Guests arriving for weddings will also have the use of this space.

Relaxed Portraits in the Meadow
Wharefdale Grange wedding venue started life as a working farm in the 17th century. It was a fruit and flower farm, and although the buildings have now been transformed for weddings and events, you will still find stunning gardens, lush greenery, and flowers in the 25 acres of land surrounding the venue.
As the seasons change, so do the opportunities for unique wedding photos. At this summer wedding, the meadow outside the barn was knee-high with pink flowers, and this made an amazing backdrop for portrait photos.

With a nod to its flower farm heritage, Wharefdale Grange even has its own on-site florist, and they grow their flowers in the cutting garden at the venue. This means you can have the most beautiful wedding flowers and they’ll be and they won’t have to travel far to reach you on the day.

Flexible Spaces – The Outside Arbour
On the grounds of Wharfedale Grange, down a paved pathway, is the oak arbour, made for outdoor ceremonies. It can be dressed with flowers or other decor or left to stand alone.
It’s a huge positive to have the option of an indoor or outdoor ceremony at Wharfedale Grange.
The arbour is also great to use as a backdrop for family photographs. The sun is behind the arbour on a summer afternoon, meaning the light is more flattering and guests don’t need to squint.

Wedding Breakfast Entertainment in The South Barn
Wedding celebrations continue in the beautifully decorated South Barn.
The long banquet tables in the barn are perfect if you’re having sharing food for your wedding breakfast.

The large top table will seat your most treasured friends and family, and this gives me a great vantage point to focus on when photographing the wedding speeches.
During the best man’s speech at this incredible wedding, the couple had arranged for a drag queen to interrupt and take the microphone for their own performance. I knew this was about to happen, so I positioned myself to photograph at this angle as the best man got the shock of his life! Capturing authentic moments like these is my ultimate goal as a wedding photographer.

A Showstopping Double-Height Dancefloor
At the other end of the Wharfedale Grange wedding barn, the space opens up into a double-height area with lots of room for a dancefloor. The huge disco ball and lights above make a great party atmosphere.
The mezzanine in the South Barn is a great vantage point for guests to watch the first dance. The space on the upper floor can also be utilised in other ways. This couple hired a casino for their guests to enjoy if they didn’t fancy staying on the dancefloor.

The most incredible moment came for this couple when two cannons blasted confetti over them during the first dance. This was such a joyous moment, and as a photographer who loves colour, it was an absolute pleasure to capture.
